Resource Portal for WHRDs
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights defines “Human rights defender” as a term used to describe people who, individually or with others, act to promote or protect human rights. This Resource Portal is designed specifically for women and girls interested in promoting and protecting human rights around the world (WHRDs).
This website provides materials based on the Report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders presented to the Human Rights Council in February 2019. The report examines the risks and challenges that women defenders face, and discusses ways of strengthening the global movement of women engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights.
We also provide resources to help women and girls in the defence of rights, and a section dedicated to highlighting the experiences and advice of inspirational women human rights defenders who have navigated the risks outlined in the report.
